November 2004:
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
It has been my pleasure to serve as your President, Co-President and
President for the last 3 years. I have organized committees,
overseen revisions of the by-laws and appeared before the city
council on behalf of our association. In addition I have attended
many meetings of interest to our neighborhood. I organized the first
Children's Day which has become quite an event. (Charlene Strauss
and Debbie Demetrius chair the Children's Committee, which plans the
children's day event now).
I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their support,
because with their help we have accomplished, a great deal. Our
organization has grown greatly. We look forward to the day when
every household in our area is a member of our homeowners association.
I would like to thank the chairs and co-chairs of the committees for
their hard work and especially Nancy Burch and the beautification
committee for keeping our living ends so nice.
As always I encourage each of you to get involved, join a committee,
join the board of directors, come to the monthly meeting, bring a
neighbor and give your input. Your association is only as good as
you make it. Maintaining our quality of life, a beautiful and safe
neighborhood and improving the value of our properties are our
primary goals. We have a good start, let's continue the pace.

CHARLENE'S COLUMN: (Guest Writer, Derek Burch)
Great weather for the gardens and gardeners, too. Cool nights and
balmy days with adequate rain will give the plants a chance to do a
last bit of growing before they slow down for winter. (Yes, Virginia,
there is a winter in Florida.)
This is a good time for a light feeding of everything in the garden.
Stay away from fertilizers in which the analysis has a high first
number, but with any of the others, simply broadcast it everywhere at
about ten pounds of fertilizer to 1000 sq. feet. That doesn't sound
like much, but it is plenty at any one application at any time of
year.
Don't bother with special fertilizers like `acid-loving'
or `citrus' `or `poison ivy' – get the least expensive that you find.
The plants don't care. The only exception is palms which will do much
better for you if you can find a `palm special' – look for that
name, but check to see the third number in the analysis (potassium)
is at least as high as the first, and that it states that it has a
lot of micronutrients.
That's it. Happy gardening.
LAST MEETING: Our guest speaker, Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion,
advised us on political events which affect our community.
NEXT MEETING: Please join us on Tuesday, November 9 at the Country
Club, at 7:00pm. We will invite an FPL spokesperson to address our
concerns about what they do before and after hurricanes.
DIRECTOR'S CORNER: Your Board of Directors elected, by unanimous
vote, for Dawn Raduano to be the new president. Tim Gardner is the
vice-president, with Bill Ritter the treasurer, Mike Odess, corporate
secretary, Charlene Strauss membership secretary, and Patrice
Mercogliano will volunteer as recording secretary. The other board
members are: Rena Beldon, Nancy Burch, Debbie Demetrius, Priscilla
Hawk, George Lord, Robert Levy, Joe Mercogliano, Hana Rosenberg.
Eleanor Clarke, and Scott Wilkerson.
Our new treasurer, Bill Ritter, will provide a current financial
statement in each newsletter. This month's statement is as follows:
PCCEHA, FINANCIAL STATEMENT 4004/2005 DUES PAID $
430.00 BANK BALANCE AS OF10-30-2004 $2065.13
Treasure W.B.R.
A Reminder: Dues ($15) for 2004-2005 are now due.
ET CETERA:
We will have an entry in the Holiday Parade, so plan to see it
starting at 9:00 am on November 20th. Better yet, volunteer to help
by calling Dawn at 954 791 4962.
Some of the trees on the swales in your area may need trimming. If
so, call the city landscape department and ask them to send someone
who will trim them free of charge.
Mark your calendar for our annual Holiday Social coming up on
December 14th, More later about this popular event.
SPECIAL THANKS: To the volunteers who made possible the Living Ends
beautification on October 23rd, 24th, and 27th. They are Mike and
Linda Odess, Marco Gutierrez, Bill Ritter, Rudy Kaelin, Suzie and Ron
Striecher, Tim Gardner, Barry Eames, Derek and Nancy Burch, and Joe
Mercogliano. The list seems impressively long, but the job of
weeding, fertilizing and mulching 11 locations is too much even for
this group of valiant workers. Please consider volunteering to keep
your Living End weeded throughout the year.
