PETERS ROAD NEWS
Over the years, "Old" Peters Road, from State Road 7 to the S.W.45th Avenue
has deteriorated to a state that fosters inadequately maintained businesses,
vagrancy, drug use and public displays of drunkenness. Over the past year,
your neighborhood group has taken a Zero Tolerance approach to this area and has
been pressing the city to remedy the deterioration here. To keep you, the
resident informed, this page was created to list the problems, remedies,
proposals and what is being done to redevelop this area.
- Peters Road Plaza/4021 Peters Road: This plaza is scheduled
to be demolished. No future plans. Property is for sale
- 4031 Peters Road: Vacant Lot is subject to be developed into
a business plaza that was approved by the HOA.
- Stevenson Roofing/4081 Peters Road: This property was bought
by Stevenson Roofing who planned to make it their headquarters. They did
refurbish the old home on site but all work has come to a halt.
- Pine Ridge Trailer Park/4271 Peters Road: Over the years,
this property has been a constant problem for our community. From the
crime, drinking and drugs to the substandard trailers and all the problems
that go along with them. Since the early 1990's, we have advocated that
this trailer park be removed. In 2005, the city put a lien on the
property for non compliance with the Gateway Ordinance. In 2007, the
city foreclosed on the property. In late 2007, the owner of the property
made an agreement with the city to prevent foreclosure. It mostly
entailed closing the trailer park as of August 31, 2008 and removing all the
trailers. As such, the property can never be used as a trailer park and
this enabled the property owner to keep the property and eventually redevelop
it.
- Old Home/4281 Peters Road: This home is the oldest
remaining original structure in Plantation and was built in approximately
1949. Unfortunately the home is in extremely poor shape and cannot be
saved. The owner is planning on donating it to the fire department for
training and he then plans to demolish it.
- City Easement/Between 4351 & 4367 Peters Road: This
easement is owned by the City Of Plantation and is actually part of Country
Club Park. We are trying to get the city to improve this area.
- Old Farm Store/4367 Peters Road: The building has been
demolished and there are no plans at this time to develop the property.
- Speedy Food Store/4351 Peters Road: This property is
under foreclosure proceedings by the city because the owner does not want to
improve his property to be in compliance with the Gateway Ordinance.
- City Sidewalks: Many are uneven, cracked and poorly
maintained.
UNINCORPORATED BROWARD COUNTY (SOUTH SIDE OF PETERS ROAD):
This area is not in the City of Plantation and under the jurisdiction of
Broward County. We are in communication with Broward County Commissioner
John Rodstrom, Broward County Code Enforcement and the Broward County Sheriffs
Office to address the following issues:
- Old Security Roofing/4420 Peters Road: Swale area is
in disrepair and landscaping is not maintained.
- Miller Plaza/4244 Peters Road: NO landscaping, parking
lot is disrepair
Over the last year, the Peters Road corridor has made great gains.
